A first taste of what you can build with AI

There’s a huge amount of information about every community. But general data only takes us so far. A local questionnaire can change the end of the telescope through which we are looking, helping us move from a general picture towards a much more complete understanding of a particular place. The Discovery Tool is a deliberately simple example of what can then be done with that knowledge. Think of it as a 2CV. It is a car, but it doesn’t try to demonstrate everything that a modern car can do. In the same way, this little tool isn’t intended to be a finished community AI system. It is simply designed to give you a flavour of what is possible when people use AI to make tools for jobs they actually need to do.

What we do

A commune may want to understand changes in population, water, climate, economic activity, education, land, waste, transport or other resources. localE helps people find the strongest available evidence, see what is uncertain, and identify what the community might discover for itself.

We do not tell communities what they should decide. We try to make the evidence easier to reach, easier to question and easier to discuss.

Evidence

Where localE looks

localE prefers authoritative primary evidence where it exists, and checks whether a source really supports the claim being made. Depending on the question, that may include official statistics, public scientific bodies, environmental and mapping services, European data and peer-reviewed research. The sources shown below are examples from the current French prototype; in other countries localE would use equivalent authoritative sources where they exist.

localE will link to original sources and selected papers, reports and books. Where useful, we can provide an accessible explanation in the reader's language while keeping a clear route back to the original work.

The aim is not to replace expertise or original sources, but to make serious material easier to enter.
